Plenary goes carbon neutral

Published 15 December 2021

AUSTRALIA and SINGAPORE: Plenary Asia Pacific is now a certified carbon neutral organisation following certification by peak Australian Government body Climate Active.

Plenary received certification for its 2020 business operations against the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard, one of the most rigorous carbon neutral certification and reporting processes in the world.

In addition to a number of emission-reducing activities implemented across the business as part of a broader focus on environmental initiatives, Plenary has purchased carbon offsets from three emission-reduction projects:

Plenary Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer David Lamming said the certification is the result of two years of work to reduce Plenary’s carbon footprint.

“To now be a certified carbon neutral business is a pleasing result, and one that speaks to our broader efforts in the ESG space,” Mr Lamming said.

“We’ve made some great progress to identify and reduce our carbon footprint. We’ve analysed our total electricity usage and are investigating modifications to our supplier arrangements, we’ve updated our travel policy to minimise interstate travel, and we’re currently transitioning to paperless offices.

“And I’m pleased that our purchase of credits through the Mapoon Carbon Project aligns with the reconciliation journey we are on. The project reduces emissions through traditional bushfire management that reduces the frequency and extent of dry season fires in northern Australia and creates job opportunities and additional revenue streams for Traditional Owners.

“We look forward to continuing to improve the way we do business and working collaboratively with Climate Active on our emissions reduction journey.”
