Design unveiled, work underway on Footscray Hospital
Published 26 March 2021MELBOURNE, VICTORIA: The design of the new Footscray Hospital has been unveiled as major work gets underway on what is the largest single health infrastructure investment in the State of Victoria.
Victorian Minster for Health Martin Foley joined Member for Footscray Katie Hall and project partners from Western Health, Victorian Health Building Authority, Victoria University (all pictured) and the Plenary Health consortium on site to mark the occasion.
The new hospital will feature more than 500 beds, enabling care for almost 15,000 additional patients and allow an extra 20,000 people to be seen by the emergency department each year. There will also be more outpatient, mental health, palliative care and surgical services.
It is being delivered as a public-private partnership, with Western Health as the public operator of all clinical services and Plenary Health contracted by the Victorian Government to finance, design, construct, and maintain the hospital for 25 years following construction completion.
The consortium comprises:
- Plenary Group as sponsor, investor and asset manager
- Multiplex as builder
- Honeywell and Compass Group as facilities and maintenance managers; and
- Sojitz Corporation as investor.
An integrated design team is led by Cox Architecture and Billard Leece Partnership.
Work is underway, and construction is set to be completed in 2025.
