Surfing for a cause

GOLD COAST, QUEENSLAND – Plenary has helped raise more than $37,000 towards improving the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of remote Indonesian communities.
A Plenary team participated in the 2017 SurfAid Cup, a tag-team surfing competition within a wider series, held on the Gold Coast recently.
Now in its sixth year, the signature global fundraiser allows each team to come together and compete against surfing professionals and local legends, raising money for the improvement of the health and well-being of remote communities.
The Plenary team raised the most for an individual team, contributing more than $5,000 to the cause. The more than $37,000 raised takes the total amount raised over the series to more than $3 million.
Plenary’s John Witheriff was involved with the event and was pleased with the results.
“We are honoured to be a part of today’s activities and are proud to be the team raising the most money,” Mr Witheriff said.
“It was a fantastic day in the water and a bit if fun to help support the incredible efforts made by an incredible organisation.
“We’ve been able to raise enough money to bring SurfAid’s Mother and Child health program to an entire village.”
SurfAid is a non-profit humanitarian organisation whose aim is to significantly improve the health, wellbeing and self-reliance of communities in remote geographical locations, connected through surfing.
SurfAid, in partnership with communities and government, works to prevent disease, suffering and death through educational programs which empower people.
Plenary director, Ray Wilson sits on the Australian and international SurfAid Boards.
