Plenary completes first package of Queensland schools

BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND – Plenary Schools has completed the stage one works at Pimpama State Primary College and Burpengary State Secondary College; the first two schools being delivered as part of the Queensland Schools Project.

Plenary Group Chief Operating Officer, Glenn Hay, said that Plenary Schools had completed the Stage 1B works on schedule at the end of December allowing the schools to commence full operations as teachers finalised their curriculum planning for 2015.

“It’s fantastic to mark the completion of the first package of schools,” Mr Hay said. “Plenary’s management of this challenging program, in partnership with our client the Department of Education and Training, has successfully delivered these quality new education facilities for the people of south-east Queensland.”

“I would also like to congratulate our building partner Watpac Constructions, who has achieved an outstanding result for the students, parents and friends of these school communities.”

Mr Hay said Plenary’s facilities management contractor, Delta FM, had fully mobilised at each site.

“Delta FM has completed its transition into the schools and is providing the necessary support to the principals and staff as they ready themselves for the start of the school year on 27 January,” Mr Hay said.

Mr Hay said that the Stage 1B works involved the fit out and commissioning of the school’s stage one learning buildings, the construction of covered walkways and the finalisation of landscaping, fencing and plantings.

Stage 1A works were handed over to the school principals in November last year. These facilities, which included an executive and student services centre, library and car parking, enabled enrolments, staff recruitment and curriculum planning to commence.

Stage 2 works at Pimpama State Primary College and Burpengary State Secondary College will recommence on site next year and will be completed for the start of the 2017 academic year, providing a school hall and additional learning facilities for the growing student base.

Work continues on the next package of schools being delivered as part of the project. Watpac's site teams have mobilised to commence the Stage 1 works at Pallara, Caboolture West/Bellmere, Griffin and Ripley Valley due to be opened for academic year 2016.

The Queensland Schools Project is being delivered as a public private partnership between the Plenary Schools consortium and the Queensland Government's Department of Education and Training. The project will deliver 10 new schools in rapidly developing areas across south-east Queensland over a five year construction term which commenced in 2014.

Plenary Schools will design, construct, partly finance and maintain the schools for 30 years.
