North West Rail Link receives international recognition

SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES – The North West Rail Link project team, part of Transport for NSW, together with Northwest Rapid Transit  won the 2015 Partnership Awards in London for Best Transit Project and the top Grand Prix award.

In announcing the Grand Prix award, the panel said:

A bold, ambitious and truly transformative project, the North West Rail Link was chosen by the judges as this year’s stand-out PPP deal. The first part of the Sydney Rapid Transit network, it is a vital first step for the city’s wider transport development plans.

The judges praised the strict performance criteria contained within the contract that is designed to ensure the project will deliver on all the potential it offers…as well as the fact that it is providing a state-of-the-art transit system for Sydney that is a genuine first for both the region and the PPP model.

NRT CEO, Mark Elliott, said that it was an honour to represent the Operations Trains and Systems (OTS) PPP and NRT consortium, including John Holland Group, Leighton Contractors, MTR Corporation, UGL Rail Services and Plenary Group, at the awards.

“Since the contract award last year, NRT’s focus and full commitment is now on delivering this first stage of Sydney Rapid Transit. To be chosen as a stand-out PPP project, particularly among the calibre of the international competition represented at the awards, cements this project’s position as world class,” Mr Elliott said.

Plenary Group is the financial sponsor, capital arranger for the Northwest Rapid Transit consortium; and is an equity investor in the project.
