Plenary turns the sod on next package of Queensland schools

BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND – Construction has officially commenced on the next package of schools being delivered by Plenary Schools as part of the Queensland Schools public private partnership (PPP) project.

Separate sod turning events hosted by Local Member representatives were held at Pallara, Caboolture West/Bellmere, Griffin and Ripley Valley in south-east Queensland.

Under the PPP agreement with the Queensland government, the Plenary Schools consortium is delivering a new primary school for each of these fast-developing areas.

Plenary Schools Director, John Witheriff, said that Plenary’s consortium construction partner, Watpac Construction, had mobilised a delivery team on each of the sites.

“Over the coming weeks work on each site will involve bulk excavation to ready the site for concrete pours commencing at the end of March,” Mr Witheriff said. “The first major construction milestone will be the completion of the site’s steel building frames in mid-2015.”

Each of these schools will be delivered in 2 stages. The first component of stage 1 works will be handed over to the State late next year and the remaining stage one works will be completed prior to the commencement of the 2016 academic year. Stage 2 work will commence in 2017 and will provide additional facilities for a growing student base for academic year 2018.

Under its agreement with the State, Plenary Schools will design, construct, commission, partially finance and provide facilities management services for the PPP project’s 10 schools over 30 years.

Plenary has already handed over on-time and on-budget the first part of stage 1 works at Pimpama State Primary College and Burpengary State Secondary College. The remainder of stage 1 for these Schools these works will be completed and ready for the student intake in January 2015.

Construction will commence on the remaining four schools being delivered at Redbank Plains, Springfield, Caboolture North East and Bellbird Park later in 2015.
