Webcam offers 24-hour view of construction progress on Thunder Bay Consolidated Courthouse

TORONTO - Plenary Justice, the company selected to design, build, finance and maintain the Thunder Bay Consolidated Courthouse, is offering the public an easy way to view the construction of the new courthouse. Visitors to Plenary Justice's new project website can access a web camera providing a video feed of the courthouse construction site. The Plenary Justice website can be found at www.thunderbaycourthouse.plenaryprojects.com.

In addition to providing views of the courthouse construction, the Plenary Justice website also offers visitors updates on the progress of construction, the latest facts and figures concerning the project and images of the future courthouse. The courthouse will improve justice services in Thunder Bay by consolidating the Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice, which currently operate in separate locations. The new multi-storey building, which will be located between Brodie and Archibald streets, south of Miles Street, in Thunder Bay's downtown south core, will have space to accommodate 15 courtrooms and four conference/settlement suites.

Construction of the new Thunder Bay Consolidated Courthouse began in December 2010. Excavation of the site is now complete and the majority of the building's foundation piles have been installed.

The courthouse construction project will provide a boost to the regional economy by creating and supporting hundreds of jobs. At the peak of construction, it is estimated that 225 workers will be on site daily. Construction is scheduled to be completed in fall of 2013.

Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Attorney General are working with Plenary Justice to manage the construction of the Thunder Bay Consolidated Courthouse, which will remain publicly owned, publicly controlled and publicly accountable. Infrastructure Ontario is a Crown corporation dedicated to delivering some of the province's larger and more complex infrastructure renewal projects - ensuring they are built on time and on budget - and to providing the public sector and not-for-profit organizations with long-term financing to renew their infrastructure.
